NEWCASTLE have secured their first item of national silverware for nine years by overcoming Birmingham to win the Premier Trophy.
The Diamonds carried a 22-point lead into Wednesday's second leg at Perry Barr but there was no let-up in their form as they won 46-44 on the night in front of a big crowd.
Impressive Danish youngsters Kenni Larsen (12) and Rene Bach (11) led the way for the Brough Park side, who remain in contention for the other main Premier League honours this season.
Team boss George English said: "This is one of the best moments of my time with the Diamonds, they all thoroughly deserve this fantastic success and we’re all so very proud of the lads bringing a professional sport’s trophy back to Tyneside. It’s been an amazing night for the club - truly amazing."
